Soles For Tots Bake Sale

A great effort by a middle school volunteer

On June 8th 2012, Priya Sarma, then a sixth grader in Todd Middle School in Poughkeepsie, NY, raised $72 for "Soles for Tots" through a bake-sale held at her school. "Soles for Tots" is a project that distributes footwear to needy children in Assam. AFNA is proud to support this project.

Priya had planned the sale and executed it with the help of her friends. Her collection was matched dollar for dollar by her parents which totaled at $144 dollars. Priya obtained permission for her bake-sale from her guidance counselor and her principal and then engaged three of her friends in the endeavor. The girls baked four different kinds of cupcakes and brownies, distributed fliers  and Priya spearheaded the awareness campaign. Priya's immense love for Assam was demonstrated in the cause she took up and the effort she had made in order to raise money for it.  Below is a collage of pictures that shows the preparation, the array of baked goods , the sale in progress and the happy volunteers! Priya is the daughter of Chandrasekhar and Gayatree Siddhanta Sarma.

Priya is a great example of how our volunteers are the catalysts who transform AFNA's mission statement into reality with their efforts and their hearts. Thank you Priya!
